Cordelia Chase
Born in modest Sunnydale
California, the Queen C, Cordelia Chase was known to be the "bitchiest girl
in Sunnydale history", as she put it in Rm w/a Vu. This much is true,
but watching the progression of her character over six years is truly
startling.
In 1996, Cordelia Chase starts
her freshman year at Sunnydale High School, starting her reign as Queen C–
the bitchy, rude popular princess she gradually becomes and gradually fades
from. Upon meeting a new student– Buffy Summers– Cordelia tries to be her
friend, since Buffy is from L.A., but finds Buffy too weird and spastic for
her tastes. It isn't until an attack on her life made by an invisible
student that Cordelia opens up, eventually taking a part-time membership in
the Scooby Gang.
The last year of high school
for Cordelia is harsh. Her father gets busted for tax evasion, and after a
brief hit-and-miss fling with Xander, she is shocked to find him making out
with Willow. Their relationship ends, and with the news of their
relationship coming out, she becomes an outcast amongst her former friends.
Cordelia resolves to go to Los Angeles, deciding to become a famous actress.
From there, she meets Angel
again, and the real journey begins.
Becoming Angel's secretary
wasn't hard. Enduring a fleeting relationship with Doyle, a half demon, was,
more so when he left his gift of visions to her after he sacrficed himself
to help save her, Angel, and a clan of demons. Cordelia becomes Vision Girl,
and with the emergence of Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, the three are a solid team.
Receing a barrage of visions
courtesy of Wolfram and Hart puts things into perspective for Cordelia,
making her focus on the mission instead of the paycheck. She is hurt and
shocked by Angel firing her when he slips, falls from grace due to Darla,
his sire. Her best friend gone, cold and foreboding. So it isn't a big
stretch for her to feel anger towards him when after his epiphany, he
returns to her, Wesley, and newcomer Charles Gunn for forgiveness.
Being spirited away to Pylea,
meeting Winifred Burkle, coming home to a Buffy-less world starts off
another summer oddly, and an even weirder year. Her bond of friendship
tightens with Angel, his unrequited love for her growing steadily. She
becomes half-demon for him, to withstand the power of her visions. In turn,
she gains new powers. Darla coming back with Angel's unborn son, Connor,
throws a wrench into things, especially when the child is kidnapped by
Wesley, taken to Quor-toth by Holtz, Angel's sworn enemy, and returning to
Los Angeles, a young man. The months of raising the baby, growing closer as
a family slip away, and even the fleeting romance with a deported Groosalug
cannot mask her feelings for Angel.
In an ironic twist of fate,
just when they were about to proclaim their mutual love for each other,
something terrible happened. Holtz was killed by Justine, his second in
command, placing the blame on 'Angelus'. Filled with rage, Connor locked
Angel into a coffin, throwing the box into the sea. Just as this occured,
Cordelia was contacted by Skip, her guide from the Powers that Be. He tells
her she is needed in another plain, and at first sad that she won't be able
to tell Angel how she feels, she agrees to go with him. Rising into the sky,
to the other plain, Cordelia leaves, just as Angel sinks down to the bottom
of the ocean...
more to come...
